Take a Dietitian to Dinner: National Nutrition Month

March, 2004

Have you tried everything to achieve a healthy diet? Have you bought LivingRight appliances but don't know how to make healthy eating a part of your everyday life?

Go out to dinner.

That's right, make a reservation at your favorite Italian watering hole or steakhouse. Make the reservation for two. Your date for lunch or the evening will be a registered dietitian.

If you're like 65 percent of Americans who are overweight, your dietitian will probably do a Stephen King-type scream on the first meeting, but have no fear: these pros have seen it all in our fast food culture. And if you, like many Americans, suffer from the national obsession with weight loss, youthful appearance, fatigue, stress, heart disease, and overall yearning for a better quality of life, you'll take the dietitian's advice without a spoonful of Nutrasweet--in other words, straight, like your mom gave you the family home remedy that made you race to school.

If you've bought your LivingRight appliances (you might even show your dietitian this e-zine), you're halfway there and the dietitian will conclude you're serious. The dietitian will also, ideally know how to help you avoid fad juicing diets and fads in general. Dietitians will help you lower your blood pressure, help you eat better if you're recovering from surgery, guide you if you're one of our nation's many diabetics, and help you draw up healthy eating plans as well as identify your personal lifestyle, health and weight management goals. Plus, you'll never have to make another New Year's resolution to lose weight and exercise!

Make sure your registered dietitian has met the strict academic and training requirements necessary to earn that license to smack the cheeseburger out of your hand. Also, remember that unlike your mother, you've chosen your dietitian to help you, so save the fighting over food for Thanksgiving. Who knows, once your food issues are resolved, Thanksgiving might be happier and more peaceful this year.

Your first blind date didn't have this potential to change your life, and it's a sure bet that you'll go home (having picked up the check of course) feeling better about yourself. Your dietitian will go home knowing that one more person is celebrating National Nutrition Month the right way. It's a win-win-win situation.
